They tell us that birth is “natural,” that our bodies were made for this. But often birth doesn’t go as planned and this leaves you feeling like you missed out, like your body failed you, like the medical system failed you, or like something is wrong with you for feeling grief around your birth.

Birth trauma also includes health scares or medical issues for you or your baby, medical interventions you weren’t comfortable with, that left you feeling like a science project rather than a human, pressure from society and even doctors to have your baby on a timeline rather than when your body felt ready, the list goes on. 

For women with past trauma it can also re-open old emotional wounds that can leave you feeling triggered and disempowered. 

Struggling with how your birth went can feel very isolating because most people don’t seem to get it which only invalidates your experience more.
